Background

Systems for Dentists (SfD), a leading dental practice management software provider in the UK, was acquired by a Core Equity portfolio company - Portman/Dentex, to strengthen its market presence and expand into the software space. Portman aimed to scale SfD's operations and revenue capabilities but needed a strategic partner to diagnose operational challenges and deliver a transformation plan.

Our Approach

In Motion was engaged to perform an in-depth analysis of SfD's operational framework. The goal was to identify inefficiencies, develop a roadmap for restructuring, and optimise processes to enable scalability and profitability. This required hands-on involvement, working closely with SfD's CEO and senior leadership to ensure alignment and momentum.

We created a comprehensive 5-10 year business plan that outlined the necessary organisational shifts and process optimisations. This plan was designed to unlock revenue potential and operational scalability. The strategic roadmap was presented to the Portman board, securing the unanimous approval and investment needed to execute the transformation. The initiative included:

  • Streamlining workflows and service delivery

  • Restructuring organisational processes for efficiency

  • Identifying new revenue opportunities

Results

The transformation effort led to a remarkable 90% increase in operational productivity, accelerating client onboarding and improving service quality. With the backing of Portman’s executive team, SfD secured investment for a dedicated change and transformation function, enabling long-term sustainable growth.

Conclusion

In Motion's strategic partnership with Portman Dentex and SfD resulted in a significant operational turnaround, creating a scalable foundation for future growth. The successful implementation of the business plan not only optimised existing processes but also secured the capital required for ongoing enhancements, cementing SfD's position as a leader in dental software solutions.
